Honorary Captains Announced for Each Grid.

By overwhelming popular demand from one person, I'm bringing back the honorary captains for each grid.

Concrete Charlie also kicked and punted.
Because he could.
Grid 1. Randall Cunningham, Eagles. Probably the most maddening Eagles player ever, he was capable of superhuman feats but not capable of regular human consistency. But any QB who manages a 91-yard-punt deserves special recognition.

Grid 2. Mark Henderson, Patriots. This ex-con drove the snowplow at Sullivan Stadium and, in a 1982 blizzard, he chugged it onto the field to clear a spot for the New England kicker, who won the game with a FG as a result. That's home field advantage.

Grid 3. Chuck Bednarik, Eagles. Hero of the 1960 Eagles NFL championship over Green Bay, Chuck tackled Jim Taylor near the goal line and and laid on top of him while watching the final seconds tick away. Concrete Charlie remains the last NFL player to play the entire game, starting on both offense and defense. After losing to the Browns once, he decked Cleveland's Chuck Noll on live TV because Noll mouthed off to him. Bednarik was a sore loser.

Grid 4. Rod Rust, Patriots. As defensive coordinator for the 1985 Patriots, he was handed a 3-0 lead in the Super Bowl and his troops promptly surrendered 46 points to Chicago to suffer what was then the most lopsided Super Bowl defeat.

Grid 5. Brian Dawkins, Eagles. The ultimate Eagle, this nine-time Pro Bowler set the record for most games played in an Eagles uniform. If Alge Crumpler ends up with CTE, you can blame B Dawk's savage but clean hit in the 2004 NFC championship game.

Grid 6. Matt Estrella, Patriots. This loyal Patriot staffer used his videography skills to help the Patriots succeed in big games, even if it wasn't exactly allowed and resulted in national disgrace, the largest fine ever levied by the league, and the punitive loss of a first-round draft pick. But they got to keep the trophies, so I guess it was worth it.

Yes, Squares are Still Available. Sign up! Details below.

Even though you're seeing full grids posted, you can still sign up for Super Squares.

Following the counsel of a Super Bowl stalwart - Dorito's - "we'll make more." Every time a grid fills, we simply launch a fresh one.

Spread the word! If you recruit a player who's new to the game, I'll spiff both of you a bonus square.

And of course, every penny of the proceeds helps to fight lung cancer.

Thank you for being generous!
