The big winner - the fight against lung cancer
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined in the Super Squares fun. Together we netted over $2,500 to support the work of the American Lung Association.
Fourth Quarter Winners!
Thank goodness for this Squares game, because the actual Super Bowl was just sad.
Nonetheless, congratulations to the $250 fourth quarter victors:
. Fagan D
. Stormes SJ
. Diaz/Schanberger.

Yes another Denver turnover
Peyton's fumble is meaningless to the game, but not to the winner of a $10 blitz prize...Duski.
Third Quarter Winners
Oh, man, prizes changed hands in a hurry on the final play of the third quarter. Denver's TD pass positioned some winners, but then the two-point conversion snatched that dough and transferred the $150 prizes to these lucky ones:
. Rashid
. Griggs
. Vivero, and
. Fuentes.

Interception!
Peyton's bad throw is good news for Seattle fans and also for.....Klemens R! He wins a $10 blitz prize.
Another challenge flag!
Lateral? Forward pass? We'll find out. But either way, it means $10 for ....Burnie L!
Challenge Flag!
Pete Carroll's disagreement with the spot means a $10 prize to.......Pat Carew! Congratulations, Binky.

David Krieg. David Krieg? No Steve Largent? No Cortez Kennedy? Um, no.
Purists might be incredulous that I've named the fourth grid after journeyman David Krieg instead of some greater Seahawklegend. But I love this guy's story. A complete nobody from tiny Milton College in Wisconsin (don't feel bad if you haven't heard of it....because it doesn't exist anymore), Dave Krieg made a career as a backup QB who continually took over the job from a brand name starter, and mostly excelled.
He stuck around 19 years!, mostly with Seattle and ending up with the Tennessee Oilers (that's right, they weren't always the Titans). Three Pro Bowls, and Krieg ranks in the top 15 all-time in most QB categories. Way more total yards than your Staubachs and your Bradshaws.
Dave Krieg is never on anyone's list of luminaries and we tend to forget, Dave Krieg was pretty damn good. Plus for awhile he held the NFL record for most career fumbles.
So no offense, Shaun Alexander, but the fourth grid belongs to the Milton's own Dave Krieg.

TD and The Mile High Salute
Grid 3 honors Terrell Davis. I was a big fan of TD, not just because he was a punishing runner but because he seemed like a good guy who was having fun. Hard to believe it's been nearly 20 years since he ushered in the Mile High Salute.The best Bronco EVER? Talk about John Elway all you want. But the Broncos had zero Super Bowl rings before TD arrived. With him, they won twice. And they have zero since he retired.

First Grid Posted = Jim Zorn Grid
Here's the first grid, named for Seattle's first star quarterback, Jim Zorn. In the expansion years, Zorn and receiver Steve Largent were the only guys worth watching on the Seahawks. Zorn's name, it should be noted, is cool.
Good luck to everyone in the grid!
The second grid is now filling up. Spread the word about Super Squares!

Broncos, Seahawks agree: let's fight lung cancer.
Please join me in fighting lung cancer, which claimed my mom's life in 2008, through the supremely fun "Super Squares" effort. Since 2008 we've raised close over $10,000!
New to Super Squares? It goes like this: you can win prize $$ depending on the Super Bowl score after each of the game's four quarters.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
To play, it's $20 for one square, three for $50, seven for $100. Free bonus square for using paypal when you participate at $50 and $100.
HOW DO YOU WIN MONEY?
Each square on the grid gives you ownership of a possible game score. Prizes are awarded at the end of every quarter. So at halftime if it's Seattle Seahawks 17, Denver Broncos 16, the squareholder with Sea 7 Bal 6 wins prize money. Everything depends on that last digit. (There's a sample grid at the bottom of the post.)
Payouts are $150 for three quarters, and $250 for the final score. Your numbers will be generated at random. The grid/s will be posted here at the blog as they fill up. I use the website random.org to generate the numbers.
You get fresh numbers every quarter, too - so if your first quarter numbers are terrible (9,9), fear not because you get a fresh set for Q2 and Q3 and Q4. The grid shows it all.
PLUS - no matter the score, you'll always have a chance to win with "blitz prizes" -- $10 awards that will be drawn on the spot when unusual events unfold during the game. We'll draw a winner when:
- there's an interception or a lost fumble, a two-point conversion, a missed extra point or a safety:
- a coach throws his "Challenge" flag;
- legalized pot gets mentioned (both cities are tokers);
- the fish market in Seattle gets pictured;
- there's a new commercial featuring a talking baby (thank you, Betsy); or
- any other loopy thing we think up between now and gametime - suggestions welcome!
HOW DO YOU PAY?
Please use paypal if you can because it makes things so much easier. Players at $50 and $100 even get a FREE BONUS SQUARE by using paypal. If you pay by check, please write the check to me (notate ALA in the subject line) and send it to me at 2513 Key West Way, Sacramento, CA, 95826.
When you log in to paypal, use the Send Money tab then select "Famly and Friends" and "Gift." That way paypal will not charge any fee on the transaction. Yay! The paypal destination email is ksmithfagan@gmail.com.
HOW DOES YOUR MONEY SUPPORT THE AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION?
Every penny from Super Squares goes to the cause (after paying the prize winners). I deliver the Super Squares funds to the ALA/Chicago branch.
Thanks for playing! And thank you for fighting lung cancer in my mom's memory.
