Great game and great cause

Thanks to everyone who supported our effort to raise money to fight lung cancer. The Super Squares was a huge success and so was the Super Bowl.

After payouts, we'll have cleared more than $3,000 to send to ALA Chicago.

See you next year!

OT prize goes to...Tracy BK!

Congrats to the Patriots and to Tracy BK on an OT victory. TBK gets the $100 special prize for the OT win.

Is there an OT prize?

Since it never happened in the game's 50-year history, we've never built a provision for an OT payout. So we're going to create a $100 OT payout to one lucky person in the pool (not specific to any grid, not dependent on the score).

$250 winners on the 8-8 square numbers.

$250 Q4 prizes go to -

. Cieslak
. Stormes
. Munnelly
. Ben Wise
. Ross Garay.

Belichick Trickery on the two-point conversion.

Julian V gets a $10 prize on the clever two-pointer by the Pats. We got ourselves a one-score game, people!

Ryan fumbles it away.

The sack-turned-fumble of Matty Ice triggers a $10 prize for Klemens.

Q3 winners are...

The unlikely Falcons 8, NE 9 awards $150 to these winners -
. D Fagan
. K Simmet
. Jesus V
. Rochelle K
. B Monico
. Klemens R.

Clang!

The Patriot missed PAT is worth $10 to Kirk Simmet.

Stuck helmets.

The stuck helmets incident is certainly cause for a $10 blitz prize. And it goes to...David Sobon.

Challenge flag = $10 prize

Congrats to Karin W, who won a $10 blitz prize when the Falcons threw the challenge flag.

Pat FG rewrites the Q2 winners

As the half wound down, the New England field goal made $150 winners out of:
. Fred Erdy
. Kelly Matheis
. Betsy Camma
. JR Springer
. Joanie RH.

Congrats to those winners and good luck to Lady Gaga.

Brady tosses pick, flails on tackle attempt

Tom Brady's pick six triggers two $10 blitz prizes - one for the interception, one for the touchdown return. Winners are:
. Ivy Johnson
. Lucy Fagan.

Fuuuuumble!

The Patriot fumble triggers a $10 blitz prize for Sally and Frank.

First Quarter winners!

Congrats to these $150 Q1 winners.
. Cieslak
. Claremon
. Munnelly
. Shaw
. J Bo.

Game time!

OK, all the orders are in: now let's play!

Enjoy the game and check back during the game to see who's winning money.

Grid #4 is posted!

Grid 4 stands as a tribute to Patriot great Stanley Morgan, perhaps the last receiver in NFL history to score touchdowns with class. #86 just handed the ball to the official. His philosophy: "When you get to the end zone, act like you've been there before."

Grid #3 is posted!

Grid 3 is named in honor of Jeff Van Note, the accomplished Falcons lineman who toiled mostly in obscurity in the 1970s and 80s for bad teams. Not entirely sure if he was that good or they were that bad. Anyway, we fondly remember JVN with grid 3.

Sometimes people ask, is there still room? Is there still time?  Yes!  Right up until kickoff.

Grid #2 is posted!

Grid 2 is named in honor of the inimitable Randy Vataha, a Stanford product who in 1971 famously migrated to the Patriots along with his Cardinal buddy Jim Plunkett. He was Wes Welker before Wes Welker, who was Wes Welker before Julian Edelman. Here's to you, Randy Vataha.

Super Squares to Fight Lung Cancer!

Please join me in fighting lung cancer, which claimed my mom's life in 2008, through the supremely fun "Super Squares" effort.  Since 2008 we've raised nearly $20,000!

New to Super Squares? It goes like this: you can win prize $$ depending on the Super Bowl score after each of the game's four quarters.

WHAT DOES IT COST?
To play, it's $20 for one square, three for $50, seven for $100. Free bonus square for using paypal when you participate at $50 and $100.

HOW DO YOU WIN MONEY?
Each square on the grid gives you ownership of a possible game score. Prizes are awarded at the end of every quarter. So at halftime if it's Atlanta 17, New England 16, the squareholder with ATL 7 NE 6 wins prize money. Everything depends on that last digit. (There's a sample grid at the bottom of the post.)

Payouts are $150 for three quarters, and $250 for the fourth quarter. Your numbers will be generated at random. The grid/s will be posted here at the blog as they fill up. I use the website random.org to generate the numbers.

You get fresh numbers every quarter, too - so if your first quarter numbers are terrible (9,9), fear not because you get a fresh set for Q2 and Q3 and Q4. The grid shows it all.
The broadcasters liked to say Steve Grogan
had "the constitution of a riverboat gambler."

PLUS - no matter the score, you'll always have a chance to win with "blitz prizes" -- $10 awards that will be drawn on the spot when unusual events unfold during the game. We'll draw a winner when:

- there's an interception or a lost fumble, a two-point conversion, a missed extra point or a safety:
- a coach throws his "Challenge" flag;
- Bernie Sanders gets mentioned;
- there's a new commercial featuring a talking baby (thank you, Betsy); or
- any other loopy thing we think up between now and gametime - suggestions welcome!

HOW DO YOU PAY?
Please use paypal if you can because it makes things so much easier. Players at $50 and $100 even get a FREE BONUS SQUARE by using paypal. If you pay by check, please write the check to me (notate ALA in the subject line) and send it to me at 2513 Key West Way, Sacramento, CA, 95826.

This PayPal link is direct:
https://www.paypal.me/kevinsmithfagan

When you log in to paypal, indicate that you're sending money to friends or family." That way paypal will not charge any fee on the transaction. Yay! If you need it, the paypal destination email is ksmithfagan@gmail.com.

HOW DOES YOUR MONEY SUPPORT THE AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION?
Every penny from Super Squares goes to the cause (after paying the prize winners). I deliver the Super Squares funds to the ALA/Chicago branch. Together we are part of Team Barbie, in my mom's honor.

Thanks for playing! And thank you for fighting lung cancer in my mom's memory.
Kevin
